450 Storylines: Washougal Recap

HUNTER LAWRENCE: Claimed his fifth victory of the season, sixth of his 450SMX career in Pro MX, and 34th of his SMX League* career. He gained 2 points on his brother in the championship standings. The win was Honda’s 800th SMX League victory, the first OEM to reach this historical milestone (Kawasaki is second with 737).

JETT LAWRENCE: Earned his 33rd 450SMX podium in Pro MX in 35 starts to move into the top 15 all-time, tying Kent Howerton, Chase Sexton, and Jeff Stanton. Lawrence also tied Bob Hannah for 21st on the SMX League podiums list with his 95th in 132 tries.

HAIDEN DEEGAN: Fifth podium of his rookie season and 62nd of his SMX League career (41st all-time). After only 2 podiums in the first 5 rounds, Deegan now has 3 in-a-row.

NOTES: Jorge Prado (4^th): Eighth top-5 finish in 19 career Pro MX starts, with 6 of those coming this season. Poised to make his 20th Pro MX start and 40th SMX League start at Unadilla.
Dylan Ferrandis (5^th): The former Pro MX champ earned his second top-5 finish of the season and 26th of his 450SMX career in Pro MX (34th all-time).

Jordon Smith (8^th): Earned his best premier class result in his rookie 450SMX season. It was his third straight top 10 after only earning one in the first 5 rounds of Pro MX.

Ashton Bloxom (33^rd): Made his first career 450SMX start in Pro MX. Had 5 starts in the 250SMX Class.

Gary Sutherlin (34^th): Off-road champion completed one of the longest periods between starts in SMX League history as the 39-year-old qualified through the LCQ almost 20 years to the date when he qualified in the 250SMX Class at Washougal for his only other SMX League start.

Seth Crotty (38^th) & Tyler Hansen (40^th): Each made their first career SMX League starts.

450 Class: Unadilla Facts

• HISTORY LESSON: Unadilla began its storied history in 1970 with Trans-AMA and Inter-Am competitions. The first Pro MX round was on July 16, 1972, during its inaugural season, doubling with Inter-Am competition. Yamaha’s Arne Lindfors (2-2) won the overall and is credited as such in Inter-Am records, but Yamaha’s Gary Jones (3-3) was credited with the Pro MX victory by scoring the best among AMA competition. In 1973 another combined round resulted in a 1-1 sweep by Finland’s Heikki Mikkola (Husqvarna). Yamaha’s Pierre Karsmakers’ 4-6 effort was good enough to score the AMA victory.
• 1972: The 1972 Unadilla Inter-Am/Pro MX combined round was won by Sweden’s Lindfors (2-2), but fellow Swede Arne Kring was clearly the fastest athlete on the track all day. Kring was leading by “a mile” in the first moto before wrecking multiple times on the tough Unadilla track. In the second moto, Kring lapped through eighth-place and won, but was docked an entire lap due to jumping the gate. He protested this penalty but lost the protest and officially earned fifth overall with 6-7 scores.
• 6 DECADES OF HISTORY: Unadilla MX is the oldest continuously running Pro MX facility in the United States. In 1974 Unadilla joined the World Championship (GPs) and other than a pair 500cc AMA rounds held in 1976 and 1977, the track only hosted Trans-AMA/USA or 250cc GP rounds through the 1988 season. From 1989-1991 Unadilla rejoined Pro MX with 125cc/500cc Nationals while also staying on the GP schedule. In 1992 Unadilla only hosted the GP, but Pro MX racing returned to Unadilla in 1993 and has been a fixture on the calendar ever since.
• CHAMPIONSHIP %, OPENERS AND FINALES: The winner at Unadilla has won the premier class title in 21 of 34 seasons (62%), including Jett Lawrence (2023, 2025) and Chase Sexton (2024) the last 3 seasons, which ended a 5-season streak of the champion failing to win at Unadilla. The track has never hosted an opening round for any class but hosted the finale in 3 seasons of 500cc competition and 3 seasons of 250cc competition.

250 Storylines: Washougal Recap

COLE DAVIES: Gained 18 points on Levi Kitchen (5th), lowering the deficit to 7 points heading into the summer’s stretch run. It was his third victory of the season and his Pro MX career. He now has 11 SMX League* victories, tying him with a slew of athletes including Davi Millsaps for 67th all-time.

RYDER DIFRANCESCO: Captured his first ever SMX League runner-up finish in a career-best effort. It was his second podium of the Pro MX season and fifth of his SMX League career. He finished third in 3 Supercross rounds earlier this year and broke through for third overall at RedBud. Ryder has finished 10th in the previous 3 championship standings but is sitting fourth this year with 3 rounds remaining.

CHANCE HYMAS: Snagged a podium spot for back-to-back weekends after averaging a ninth-place finish in the first 6 rounds of the season. It was his seventh Pro MX podium in 28 starts as he moved into the top 5 in the championship standings.

NOTES: Carson Mumford (4^th): Back-to-back top-5 finishes after having 0 in his first 41 starts. He is up to eighth in the point standings.

Levi Kitchen (5^th): Hometown hero struggled at Washougal, but held onto the red plate by seven points.

Dilan Schwartz (8^th): Made his 40th career Pro MX start and earned his best finish of the season.

Leum Oehlhof (26^th): Former SMX Next athlete and son of former pro Joe Oehlhof made his first career Pro MX start.

Cohen Jackman (33^rd), JJ Concannon (34^th), Kyle Looney (38^th), & Ty Freehill (39^th): All made their first career 250SMX starts in Pro MX. All except for Freehill also made their SMX League debuts.

250 Class: Unadilla Facts

• HISTORY LESSON: The first 250SMX round at Unadilla was on October 15, 1989, as the season finale. Mike Kiedrowski held an 11-point lead over Damon Bradshaw in the championship standings. Bradshaw cut the lead in half with a win and Kiedrowski’s third in the first moto. Bradshaw completed the sweep with a victory in the second moto, but Kiedrowski’s runner-up gave him the title by a mere 3 points. In the 500cc finale, Jeff Ward held off Jeff Stanton to score the championship, but it was Jean-Michel Bayle’s 1-2 effort that scored the overall that day.
• 30+ SEASONS OF HISTORY: With the exception of 1992 & 2020, Unadilla has hosted a 250SMX round every season since. That means 2026 will be the 36th 250SMX round held at Unadilla. Between all 3 classes there have been 74 Pro MX rounds held at Unadilla and over 219 professional events held at the venue in 57 years.
• KIEDROWSKI SWEATS IT OUT: Unadilla stood as the 250SMX finale from 1989-1991. Each season the title came down to the final moto and involved Kiedrowski. After his narrow victory in 1989, Kiedrowski wasn’t as lucky in 1990 vs. Guy Cooper. Kiedrowski came into the race with a 1-point lead, but lost 5 points in the first moto. In the second moto he gained just 3 points back, losing the title by a single point. Kiedrowski had more momentum going into the 1991 finale, leading by 28 points going into the round. A problem in the last moto of the season spelled trouble for Kiedrowski, but he was able to remount and win the title by 16 points in his third straight nail-biting title chase.
• CHAMPIONSHIP %: Only 14 times in 35 seasons (40%) has the Unadilla winner won the title. 250SMX champions have only won Unadilla 3 times in the previous 12 seasons.
