The SMX LeagueTM, in partnership with MX Sports, is excited to announce the return of the Loretta Lynn’s Lap-a-Thon Benefitting St. Jude Kids at the 44th Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This athlete-driven fundraising event is a part of the continued expansion of the Love Moto Stop Cancer initiative that also includes the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship, the Pro Motocross Championship, and the SMX World Championship.
Affectionately known as Loretta Lynn’s, the amateur national championship is the single-largest motocross event in the United States, and arguably the world. More than 1,500 amateur racers will convene at Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, starting on Sunday, July 27, for a week of non-stop action across 36 classes of competition. Each competitor will race in at least three separate races (motos) throughout the week, ending on Saturday, August 2, when each class champion will be formally crowned. All told, the 108 combined motos contested over the course of the week will accumulate to more than 36,000 laps raced. The Lap-a-Thon provides a unique opportunity for every lap to count towards raising money for the unwavering commitment by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to continue its fight against childhood cancer. Each individual racer has the opportunity to register and begin his or her fundraising journey at the Ranch, where family, friends, and sponsors can simultaneously provide athlete support and contribute to the cause.
This year marks the 44th running of the Monster Energy AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship fondly referred to as Loretta Lynn’s, the single-largest motocross event in the United States.

To see the work they do firsthand and to hear directly from the families receiving care is incredible and has stuck with me,” said Tim Cotter, Director of Operations, MX Sports. “There is a community at St. Jude and we’re also a community at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. One of the greatest and most rewarding opportunities is when one community can help another in need and that serves as the inspiration for the Lap-a-Thon. To rally our athletes, come together as a community, and provide support to those in need. When it comes down to it, it’s kids helping kids.” Starting today, athletes can sign up to join the cause of Love Moto Stop Cancer and become a St. Jude fundraiser. Participants will be provided with campaign tools to have donors sponsor the number of laps they complete during the Loretta Lynn’s Lap-a-Thon Benefitting St. Jude Kids. Each athlete that signs on to become a fundraiser will be given a St. Jude sticker that will be affixed to their official Loretta Lynn’s number plate to signify they are racing for a bigger purpose – the St. Jude Mission: Finding Cures. Saving Children.
Back for year two, Amateur athletes will be able to participate in the Love Moto Stop Cancer campaign and fundraise like their pro heroes on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In its 9th year of partnership, the SMX LeagueTM has raised more than 2.5M for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through various annual fundraising campaigns including – Love Moto Stop Cancer text-to-donate T-shirt campaign, Love Moto Stop Cancer dedicated race, the St. Jude – Supercross online auction, Ken Roczen’s Kickstart for A Cause Bike Giveaway Sweepstakes, and the Rocky Mountain ATV MC Love Moto Stop Cancer Golf Tournament benefitting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
