SMX Combined Points: Playoff Stories to Watch at Ironman

August 22, 2023

Full Points and Payout Breakdown

This is it! The final race before the start of the inaugural SuperMotocross World Championship is upon us, and the last chance for the riders to qualify for a starting spot.

The top 20 riders will be automatically seeded into the SMX World Championship Finals. Riders in positions 21-30 plus any Supercross Main Event winners or Pro Motocross moto winners will have the opportunity to race a Last Chance Qualifier for the final two gate positions at each race.

With that in mind, here is a list of five stories to watch in each class entering Saturday’s event at Ironman Raceway.

450 SMX Standings:

  • Jett Lawrence is just 8 points back of Adam Cianciarulo for 3rd in the combined standings
  • Dylan Ferrandis is just 16 points behind Cooper Webb for 5th in the combined standings
  • Justin Barcia is just 31 points back of Eli Tomac and 32 points back of Ken Roczen, which could move him up from 10th to 8th
  • Jose Butron is currently 22nd and expected to break into the Top 20.
  • Once the field is set, there are six anticipated free spots (Tomac, Craig, Locurcio, Pape, Bloss and Savatgy) which could give an opportunity for Josh Cartwright, Jerry Robin, Jeremy Hand, Harri Kullas, Cade Clason, Lucas Marsalisi, Ryan Surratt, Jace Kessler and Bryce Shelly depending on how things fall.

250 SMX Standings:

  • Max Anstie is expected to drop from 13th to 15th
  • Seth Hammaker is expected to move up into the top 20
  • Stilez Robertson is expected to move up into the top 30
  • Austin Forkner is expected to break into the top 30
  • With up to eight anticipated free spots (Jett Lawrence, Chance Hymas, Enzo Lopes, Jeremy Martin, Chris Blose, Mitchell Oldenburg, Nate Thrasher, and Cullin Park), it is tough to nail down the potential fill-ins between injuries and contracts.
